The first annual SHINE dentistry charity golf tourney was held at the award winning Black Hawk Golf Club near Edmonton. The event was organized and staffed by members of the dentistry classes from the University of Alberta. The event raised several thousand dollars for the delivery of dental care to the inner city population of Edmonton through the SHINE dental program that features University of Alberta dental students and volunteer dentist preceptors. Dr. Wayne Raborn, Senior Associate for the Prairies and former head of the dentistry program at the U of A participated thanks to support from ROI Corporation. Wayne noted that the championship course "overmatched his golfing skills". However, it was a beautiful day and ROI Corporation joined several major sponsors like BMO in launching this important annual fund raising event. |
